Jay Mistry

Jay is Professor of Environmental Geography at Royal Holloway University of London and Co-Director of the Cobra Collective. Her research is on sustainable natural resource management using a hybrid, interdisciplinary systems science approach. Her work has a particular emphasis in supporting indigenous communities in participatory action research and she has been using a range of techniques, including biophysical monitoring and participatory video for empowering local communities to reflect on and take action to systemically manage their natural resources. Related interests include resource governance and management at a range of scales, and the role of discourse and narratives in policy formulation. Her other long standing research area is fire management in tropical savannas, particularly the Cerrado of Brazil, where she has been investigating social-ecological interactions, policy implications and participatory fire management.
