Indigenous Seed Fairs in Roraima

Partnerships and Capacity Building for Future Food Security

January 31, 2015

Seed Fairs are local events that ensure that farmers can trade and access the correct variety of seeds that they need. It is also an opportunity to share knowledge on practices and techniques and help each other solve problems within their farming system. In Maturuka there were concerns about the lost of knowledge, practices and crop varieties which could impact food security. The village held discussions, exchanged visits with communities conducting seed fairs and was able to launch their own seed fair to help build capacity and recover knowledge and crop varieties.
