Deforestation threatens the cultural survival of forest dependent peoples new report published out of Lima, Peru during climate change talks on 8 Dec, 2014. Guyana has been featured in one of the case studies presented. The case study indicates how factors like outdated legal framework, discriminatory laws, contradicting policies and failure to acknowledge Amerindian rights are driving forest loss and human rights abuses. The report also highlight how such factors are impacting Amerindian culture but more important how these tribes are taking steps to safe guard or reverse the lost of their culture. This COBRA supported photostory highlights how the Wapishan community of Katoonarib are taking steps to revive their culture.
